Happy Sunday, and welcome back to another update on Team USA in the FIBA tournament. I have been closely following it since it started on Friday, September 4th. I must say it is very interesting to see the different coaching styles as well as the lineups during each matchup thus far. It is always a pleasure seeing some of the league's best take on talent from other sides of the world today; let’s congratulate the ladies of Team USA on their win of 55-52 against Italy.
Although Team USA did not perform at the level fans hoped they would, we still pulled off the win today. Struggling significantly with our shooting today, Jackie Young led the team's victory with her 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Paige Bueckers wasn’t far behind with her 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists; Breanna Stewart excelled with her 11 rebounds. Rhyne Howard was able to stop a shot with her 1 block as well as score 2 points for the team. Angel Reese contributed 8 points and 2 blocks to her tally as well.
Cecilia Zandalasini for Team Italy scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds; teammate Mariella Santucci added 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist to that total. However, the team still came up short, closing out the match with a failed 3-point attempt from Golden State's Zandalasini. I’m anxious to see what Team USA does in the next matchup with Czechia on Monday the 7th at 1:45. Will Team USA dominate on the court to gain the title of champion?
